Violent Cases is Neil Gaiman's and Dave McKean's first published graphic novel - but if you didn't know you probably wouldn't be able to tell. Published just when people were first starting to realise that comics "weren't just for kids anymore" Violent Cases has Gaiman (or someone who looks very much like him) address the reader directly with his reminiscences about growing up and his first encounters with the world of violence. With crisp detailed artwork from Dave McKean it's a slow burning but seductive read - best enjoyed late at night when everyone else has gone to sleep. And the kinda thing that rewards attentive reading.
