From the National Association of Comic Art Educators - an organization "committed to helping facilitate the teaching of comics in higher education" comes this informative slice of American social history starring the legendary figure of Satchel Paige: baseball player extraordinaire. Bringing together the worlds of baseball and civil rights Satchel Paige: Striking out Jim Crow is told from the viewpoint of unnamed black sharecropper whose life crosses over with Satchel Paige in interesting ways. With very sparse and simple drawings by Rich Tommaso this is book designed for teaching purposes and although it has a narrative that draws the reader along it never quite becomes entertaining enough to be enjoyed for it's own sake. That said: for anyone wanting a window into life in the early twentieth century and the ways that racism blighted people's lives this will do the job.
