Written by professional grouch Harvey Pekar (who made his name writing American Splendor) The Quitter is a memoir of his early life trying work out what he wants to do with his life, trying to hold down a job and trying to win some self-respect (in whichever way possible). Narrated in his own no-nonsense voice - and doing his best to resist self-aggrandizing - Harvey's life is nothing special: but that's what makes it so appealing - it's a small slice of an average life memorialised in graphic form. With capable black and white artwork from Dean Haspiel - this book won't set your world alight - but Harvey's good company even if his favourite choice of conversation is himself.
